Biography

Theresa Yun Sze Lo was born in Hong Kong and moved to Taiwan when she was 7 years old. A fan of Classical music since a very young age, Theresa displayed a great passion for playing the piano and began piano training by the age of 9.

At the age of 16, Theresa moved to Greater Vancouver, and soon enrolled in the University of British Columbia, pursuing a degree in Psychology and BCIT, along with a diploma in accounting. It was after embarking on her professional journey as an accountant that Theresa found herself, once again, on a pathway towards music. Attending a local church in 2004, while working for her accounting career, the artist began playing the piano at the church.

It was during her service as a pianist that Theresa realized her limited scope in piano playing and resolved to pursue her piano study once again, while simultaneously diligently studying for her accounting designation. However, amidst heavy workloads and financial constraints, the budding musician was compelled to put the piano training aside again.

A prolific, self-taught composer, Theresa found herself honing her skills in improvisation and arrangement techniques for worship pieces soon enough. The talented artist studied with different music teachers from both the Mozart School of Music in Burnaby and the Willingdon Fine Arts Academy, learning critical skills which helped her get into melody composition, curating simple and moving Classical and piano pieces.

With records such as “Be Youthful” which she dropped in 2022, “String Quartet No.1” which was unveiled in 2021, and her EP, ‘Driving on Barnet Highway’, Theresa continues to move listeners with her expressive and heartfelt music. As musician and owner at ‘Creative Projects by Theresa’ in Burnaby, the artist composes dynamic musical orchestra and songs, writing lyrics for melodies in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

With plans to finish her original composition, “Requiem” in the next 5 years, Theresa intends to compose children’s music and complete “String Quartet No.2”. Expanding her musical imprint and presence, the artist plans to eventually go further in the music field and make it her permanent job, chasing something she has a passion for.
